Turkey would continue to use its right of self defence against similar attacks on Turkish military personnel in Syria, Anadolu quoted Erdogan as telling his Russian counterpart.
Seven Turkish soldiers and three civilians were killed and several were wounded in shelling by Syrian government forces in Syria’s last rebel-held enclave of Idlib on Monday.
The Kremlin said Putin and Erdogan agreed to take immediate measures to improve coordination of their countries’ actions in war-torn Syria, Reuters reported.
The two leaders highlighted the need to follow Russia-Turkey agreements on Syria’s Idlib that envisage increasing cooperation to “neutralize extremists,” Reuters quoted the Kremlin as saying.
The two leaders also discussed the latest developments in Libya, where Ankara and Russia also support opposing sides in the conflict, Anadolu said.
