Kurdistan Region to begin rail network construction in 2021

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Housing and Construction Dana Abdulkarim said on Tuesday, March 2, that construction on a local rail network will begin this year.
Abdulkarim said during a press conference that the project was supposed to start in 2020, but was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
According to NRT he said that the ministry will now start preparations, assessment, and writing protocols for the project.
The 915-kilometer network will cover all cities in the Kurdistan Region and be implemented by Spanish and German companies.
The project with be built in three phases, with 620 km in the first phase, another 135 km in the second, and 160 km in the third.
