At least two killed in vehicle explosion in Sari Kani

Story summary
A vehicle exploded in a crowded area in the north Syrian Kurdish town of Sari Kani on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring several more, a war monitor and Turkish state media have reported.

The explosion took place in a poultry market in the town’s center, killing two civilians and injuring seven others, reported Turkish state-owned Anadolu Agency.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported four deaths and eight injuries, identifying the explosive-laden vehicle as a van.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, according to Anadolu.

Sari Kani and the neighboring town of Gri Spi (Tal Abyad) used to be under the control of the YPG (Kurdish Peoples Protection Units), until Turkey and its Syrian proxies invaded much of northern Syria in October 2019.

The security forces have since blamed most of the explosions in Sari Kani on the YPG, although the group has said that it does not target civilians.
