KDP calls for Kurdistan Region parliament to resume sessions

Story summary
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said on Sunday, May 8, it believes the Kurdistan Region Parliament should resume sessions.

The Spokesman of the KDP, Mahmoud Mohammed, said in a press conference for the party’s affiliated media that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has a number of legal projects related to government reform that need to be brought before parliament.

He also stated parliament was not meant to function solely for elections, NRT reported.

Mohammed said it was important to the KDP that Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections were held on time and meetings among high-level officials in the parties must be held in order to accomplish this.

Sessions have been suspended at the Kurdistan Parliament for nearly two months for no apparent reason.

The KDP has blamed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) for the halt to sessions while the PUK accuses the KDP of trying to take over everything in the government.
