Several homes in the village of Hirore were damaged by shrapnel during the attack, Rudaw said.

Village chief Azad Adib told the news outlet that it was “the first time” Turkey targeted the area so intensely. Turkish jets bombed the village five times and targeted a civilian house, he said.

There were no reports of casualties as a result of the strikes, which come in the wake of Turkey’s latest operation in the region against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Turkey’s internal conflict with the PKK has resulted in as many as 40,000 casualties over nearly four decades. In recent years, fighting has increasingly shifted across the Iraqi border.

Earlier this week, Turkish warplanes bombed a mountain in view of students at a local primary school in Erbil province’s Barzan.

In late January, artillery shells fired by the Turkish military also destroyed 20 beehives owned by a village in Duhok’s Kani Masi subdistrict.
