Story summary
According to the official Iraqi news agency, Rebin Salam said in this regard: "In this meeting, a historical and important plan presented by the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Masoud Barzani for the Iraqi political process was presented and by Nechirvan Barzani to Moqtada Sadr. The plan is to save Iraq from political stagnation ahead of a vote on the presidential candidate, and to vote for the three top Iraqi leaders to prevent any foreign interference in Iraq internal affairs."
Rebin Salam added: Barzani and Halbousi, as two figures at the head of the two factions with the most votes after Sadr, presented this plan and consulted with Moqtada al-Sadr as the leader of the largest parliamentary faction in order to meet the demands of the people.
The senior KDP member stated: The message of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and Sunni political movements is to support a national majority government to form it from the three movements of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds. We experienced a coalition government in the past but we did not achieve any positive results.
Rebin Salam called on Iraqi political figures to join this "strong and broad coalition based on the election results."
"The three movements are considered the winning sides and the strongest forces of this stage, and any faction that does not want to ally with it must join the opposition. Because Iraq is a democratic country and there must be a strong opposition," the Kurdish political figure added.
At the end of the Monday meeting, Moqtada al-Sadr stressed on the formation of a majority government, neither Eastern nor Western, and announced that this would be achieved through the experience of this type of government.
It is worth mentioning that, Moqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadr faction in the Hananeh district of Najaf, hosted the speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Mohammad Halbousi, the head of the Kurdistan Region, Nachirvan Barzani, and the head of the Azim coalition, Khamis al-Khanjar.
At the end of the meeting, Moqtada al-Sadr emphasized: Stop terrorism and violence against people and partners. We continue to support the formation of a patriotic majority government and to welcome dialogue with the patriotic opposition.
