Resumption of Norwegian oil company's activities in Kurdistan region

Story summary
World Service - The Norwegian oil and gas company DNO ASA announced that it has resumed its activities in the oil fields of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq after the temporary stoppage of oil production, following the war between the United States and Israel against Iran.

According to Kurdpress, the Norwegian oil and gas company DNO ASA announced on Monday that it has resumed its activities in the Tauke and Pishkhabur oil fields in the Kurdistan region of Iraq - after a temporary stop that occurred following the US-Israeli war against Iran.

According to the company's statement, all drilling and production operations were stopped from February 28, 2026, at the same time as the start of the American and Israeli airstrikes against Iran, as a precautionary measure and in order to protect the safety of employees.

DNO announced that two wells that were drilled in Taukeh field in December 2025 and January 2026 entered the production circuit at the beginning of the first quarter of this year, but immediately after the start of conflicts, production and drilling in the Kurdistan region was stopped.

According to this report, the activities have resumed since April 9 and the operational teams have started repairing the existing wells. Also, the drilling program of eight new wells, which was announced earlier, has been reactivated with the aim of increasing production in two fields, Tauke and Pishkhabour.

This stop caused a significant decrease in oil production, so that the average production in the first quarter of 2026 reached 39,600 barrels per day; while this figure was 57,951 barrels per day in the previous quarter.

The company also announced that its share of eligible oil from the Kurdistan Region was sold to a local buyer at an average price of $31 per barrel.
