Iraq opens four customs offices at the crossings of the Kurdistan region

Story summary
Service of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region - The General Administration of Iraqi Customs announced the opening of four customs offices near the provinces of the Kurdistan Region; An action that is carried out with the aim of controlling the entry of goods and the full implementation of the Asikoda system at border crossings.

According to Kordpress, the General Administration of Regional Customs announced that the purpose of this action is to prevent the entry of any goods from routes outside of the official federal crossings and to fully implement the "Asikoda" system at all border crossings.

Samer Qasim, Director General of the Iraqi Customs Department, stated that the duty of these offices is to receive the difference in customs duties determined for the goods.

He added: The reason for taking this decision is that the crossings of the Kurdistan region are not activated electronically and the customs system implemented in the federal crossings is not fully applied.

The Director General of Iraqi Customs stressed that traders are only allowed to import goods through the "Aciuda" system and through official federal crossings.

He also explained about the duties of the new offices: checking the documents of the goods, ensuring the correct implementation of the approved customs tariffs and receiving the amounts related to the difference in duties will be among the responsibilities of these offices.

At the same time, the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce announced yesterday that it is working on a comprehensive project to unify the procedures at all border crossings and emphasized that the Kurdistan Region should also cooperate in this process so that the methods of transporting goods across the country are unified and all provinces are under a single legal framework.

According to this decision, no goods from the Kurdistan region will be allowed to enter other regions of Iraq unless they have passed through these customs offices.
