Erdogan would be supported by 37.2 percent of voters if presidential elections were held today, while 42.2 percent said they would support another candidate, the poll by Avrasya Research found, Diken news website reported.

The remainder were undecided or did not state a preference.

The governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) would win 36.9 percent of the vote and its allies, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), 7.1 percent. The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has the support of 28.1 percent of the electorate and the Good Party (IP) 11.4 percent, according to the survey.

Diken did not say how many people Avrasya questioned and what the margin of error was for the poll.

The next presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are due to be held in 2023.
