US denounces bombings in Syrian Kurdistan

Story summary
The United States on Monday, February 1, condemned recent bombings in Azaz, al-Bab, and Afrin in Syrian Kurdistan.

The attacks killed at least twenty civilians, including children.

“The United States is deeply alarmed by the frequency of such attacks in recent months, including the repeated use of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices,” US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement.

“Those responsible for perpetrating the violence should be brought to justice. Their actions endanger the Syrian people and threaten to destabilize the region further,” he added.

On Saturday, a car bomb exploded in Turkish-held Afrin city, which had been a majority Kurdistan area controlled by the People's Protection Units (YPG) until 2018. Eight people were killed, including four children.

The following day, two separate explosions rocked Azaz and al-Bab, with the latter targeting fighters belonging to Turkey’s Syrian rebel allies.
