Iran to formalize seven new border crossings with Kurdistan Region

The director-general of relations between the currently-expired Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iran said on Tuesday, November 8, that Iran has decided to formalize seven new border crossings between Iran and the Kurdistan Region.

The director, Abdullah Akrayi, told a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official media outlet that the decision is to make traveling between the Region and Iran easier, NRT reported.

There are currently three international border crossings between the two and formalizing seven more will help tourists are traders to make travel faster.

Akrayi said two unofficial crossings are located in Garmian, two are located in Choman, one is located Qaladze, one in Hawraman and the other is in Sidakan.

He also said Iran has formally agreed for the border crossing to be formalized and now the process awaits the Iraqi federal government’s decision.
