Sudani meets with UN rep. for talks on handling corruption in Iraq

Plasschaert said the United Nation’s assistance to Iraq would continue in the framework of the UN agenda.

Plasschaert said during the Middle East Research Institute (MERI) Forum on Tuesday that corruption was Iraq’s greatest challenge, that stands in the way of its progress and development.

Wednesday’s meeting also covered ways to manage the recent outstanding case of an estimated 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars ($2.5 billion) in government funds missing from Iraq’s General Tax Authority.

The Iraqi Integrity Committee announced an investigation into the case on October 16.

Plasschaert’s meeting with Sudani on Tuesday also covered the issue of displaced persons in the country, Iraqi News Agency said.
