Member of Iraqi parliament’s security and defense committee Hussein Amri said the committee would pay a visit to border areas in Kurdistan’s Duhok province to investigate attacks and air strikes carried out by Turkey in the province, according to Iraqi media.
“We would precisely discuss Turkey’s military incursions and its air strikes on the Kurdistan Region’s border areas,” Amri said.
He stressed that they would prepare reports on the ‘consequences and damages’ of Turkish attacks.
The committee would later present the contents of the report to the Iraqi council of Representatives, he said.
In April, Turkey launched a new ground and air campaign in the Kurdistan Region, targeting PKK positions.
Dubbed Operation Claw-Lock, Ankara says the offensive is a measure to prevent the PKK from using Iraq as a base to carry out attacks in Turkey.
Turkey’s defense ministry said 21 soldiers had been killed during its operation against the group. As many as 118 PKK fighters had also been killed by the Turkish military, it added.
But the People’s Defense Forces (HPG), the PKK military wing, said 32 of its fighters were killed in attacks against the Turkish army. Up to 501 Turkish soldiers were also killed in the group’s attacks, it stated.
