Baghdad's anger over Hakan Fidan's statements;

Story summary
Iraq and Kurdistan Region Service - In response to the recent statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the country's ambassador in Baghdad and announced its official protest against what was called "interference in the internal affairs of Iraq."

According to Kurdpress, Turkey's ambassador to Baghdad, "Anil Bora Inan", met with "Mohammed Hossein Bahrul Uloom", the country's deputy foreign minister for bilateral relations, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This meeting was held after Hakan Fidan's television interview with CNN Türkiye on February 9.

In this meeting, Bahr al-Uloom emphasized that the statements published by the Turkish Foreign Minister harm the friendly relations between Baghdad and Ankara and are an example of interference in Iraq's internal affairs and contradict diplomatic principles and customs.

He added: Iraq is a country with official institutions with a democratic political system and constitution and cannot be compared with other countries with different structures.

The deputy foreign minister of Iraq also clarified that the case of Sinjar and other regions of the country is a completely internal and national issue and Baghdad deals with it based on its national priorities and mechanisms.

On the other hand, the Turkish ambassador, referring to the "misconception caused by the wrong translation", announced that Hakan Fidan's words were only about the elements of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) based in Iraq and had nothing to do with the internal affairs of Iraq or the citizens of this country.

The Turkish ambassador also assured that he will convey the message and official position of the Iraqi government to the Ankara authorities and emphasized his country's desire to strengthen bilateral relations in line with the interests of the two neighboring nations.
